Oral health during pregnancy

Pregnancy brings important changes that can also affect oral health. Hormonal changes make the gums more sensitive to bacterial plaque, increasing the risk of inflammation, bleeding, gingivitis and pregnancy epulis. Existing tooth decay or periodontal problems may also become symptomatic.

Contrary to common belief, pregnancy does not damage the teeth or draw calcium from them. Problems are mainly linked to hormonal changes, nausea, vomiting and greater difficulty maintaining oral hygiene. We therefore recommend regular check-ups and professional hygiene appointments throughout pregnancy to protect the health of both mother and baby.
